I went backpacking around Egypt & Jordan for one month by myself. Egypt & Jordan are undoubtedly on most people's travel bucket lists, but I've always had the impression that the majority of people travel there on an organised tour. So I wanted to give it a go by myself and see what it was like booking everything on the go, treating it like a normal backpacking trip.

The Adventures of Timothy Pilgrim was a children's television serial consisting of ten 15 minute installments which originally aired in 1975 on Canada's TVOntario and was rerun countless times afterward over the next decade on TVO as well as on other Canadian educational channels and PBS. The title character is a shoeshine boy who travels back 100 years in time by means of a magic trunk and meets Zachariah Gibson, a travelling salesman and showman who peddles elixers and tonics. Die Serie dreht sich um die Familie Seaver, die auf Long Island in New York lebt. Als die Mutter Maggie beschließt, wieder in ihren Beruf als Journalistin zurückzukehren, muss Vater Jason, der zu Hause eine psychotherapeutische Praxis betreibt, die Kindererziehung übernehmen, was ihm nicht immer leicht fällt. Der älteste Sohn Mike, zu Beginn der Serie 15 Jahre alt, ist ein miserabler Schüler und hat jede Menge Flausen im Kopf. Ständig gerät er in irgendwelche Schwierigkeiten und hält seine Eltern ganz schön auf Trab. Die zu Beginn 14-jährige Carol ist das genaue Gegenteil von ihrem großen Bruder. Sie ist hochintelligent und will unbedingt Karriere machen. Der jüngste Sohn Ben ist anfangs neun Jahre alt und bewundert seinen großen Bruder Mike. Später kommt noch Töchterchen Chrissy dazu, außerdem nehmen die Seavers gegen Ende der Serie den Straßenjungen Luke auf, der jedoch nach einer Weile zu seinem leiblichen Vater zurückkehrt.

Die siebenjährige Dora lebt in einem Computer und lehrt die Kinder, Situationen zu beobachten und Probleme zu lösen. Das zentrale Paar in der Serie „Still Standing“ bringt sich immer noch gegenseitig zum Lachen, selbst wenn das Geld manchmal knapp wird und in ihrer Familie nicht alles so glatt läuft. Sie sind stolz auf ihre drei Kinder und versuchen moderne und tolerante Eltern zu sein, was nach Ansicht der Kids nicht immer gelingt. Ihre altkluge Tochter Lauren glaubt nämlich, dass ihre Eltern extrem uncool sind. Vor allem dann, wenn sie ihr nicht erlauben, sich ihren Bauchnabel piercen zu lassen.
