Nonni und Manni war die ZDF-Weihnachtsserie des Jahres 1988 und entstand als Koproduktion zwischen Island, Norwegen und Deutschland auf Grundlage des gleichnamigen Buchs von Jón Sveinsson. Regisseur war Ágúst Guðmundsson. Aufnahmen für den Film entstanden bei den alten Häusern auf der Insel Flatey im Breiðafjörður. Die Geschichte spielt in Island im Jahr 1848. Nonni und Manni leben mit Mutter und Großmutter auf einem Bauernhof, als eines Tages ein Fremder mit der Nachricht vom Tod ihres Vaters auftaucht. Harald, so der Name des Fremden, gilt schnell als der Mörder eines reichen Bauern, doch Nonni und Manni glauben dies nicht und halten ihn versteckt.
