Die Daily-Soap dreht sich um den Alltag der Bewohner in der fiktiven „Schillerallee 10“, einem Wohn- und Geschäftshaus im Kölner Stadtteil Ehrenfeld. Im Mittelpunkt steht Familie Weigel, die im Erdgeschoss eine Konditorei betreibt und mit drei Generationen im Haus lebt. Seit Beginn der Serie im Jahre 1994 sind verschiedene Familien ein- und ausgezogen, die jungen Bewohner der Wohngemeinschaft im Dachgeschoss wechseln besonders häufig. Die Geschichten um Liebe, Intrigen, Freundschaft, Kinder und Karriere, Betrügereien, intakte und kaputte Familien werden meist aus Sicht der jüngeren Bewohner erzählt, wobei deren Konflikte durch die räumliche Nähe auch auf die alteingesessenen Nachbarn, Freunde und Geschäftsleute übertragen werden.
