Licking Hitler is a television play about a black propaganda unit operating in England during World War II, broadcast by the BBC on 10 January 1978 as part of the Play for Today series. Shouyou Hinatas Liebe zum Volleyball entflammt, als er zufällig ein Spiel der Karasuno Oberschule bei den nationalen Meisterschaften im Fernsehen sieht. Das von Hinata gegründete Mittelschulteam hat jedoch nur wenige Mitglieder und dennoch haben sie es irgendwie geschafft, bis zum ersten regulären Spiel ihrer Mittelschule zu bestehen. Bei ihrem ersten und zugleich letzten Spiel wird das Team um Hinata von Tobio Kageyama, dem Spieler mit dem Titel „König des Feldes“ und dessen Team, vernichtend geschlagen. Hinata schwört, sich in der Oberschule an Kageyama zu rächen und fängt an, hart zu trainieren, damit er an seiner Wunsch-Oberschule Karasuno angenommen wird. Als er endlich dem Volleyball-Club der Karasuno-Oberschule beitritt, erlebt er eine faustdicke Überraschung: Sein Erzfeind Kageyama spielt mit ihm im selben Team!
