In a small village in Darjeeling, Sahuji the merchant has weaved a web of corruption in every layers of the social fabric. And he is also involved in rampant smuggling of goods across the border, and everyone from the local jeweler to the local police inspector are part of his intricate web. While the father has created a position of influence by spreading corruption, his son Kaaliram has ushered in a reign of terror. In eindringlichen und poetischen Bildern erzählt der Film die ungewöhnliche Geschichte eines Menschen, der die eigene Lebenserfahrung als Blinder nutzt, um seinen jungen Patienten zu helfen, sich auf die Welt einzulassen und ihre individuellen Möglichkeiten auszuschöpfen. «Nel giardino dei suoni» («Im Garten der Klänge») ist eine Entdeckungsreise in die Grenzgebiete der Kommunikation, ein leiser und berührender Film über die «hörbare Welt», die wir Sehenden normalerweise nicht oder kaum bewusst wahrnehmen.
