Gemeinsam mit seinem Freund Neal Nicol und seiner Schwester Margo Janus hilft der Arzt Jack Kevorkian seit den 80er-Jahren über 100 seiner schwerkranken Patienten dabei, sich selbst zu töten. Daraufhin wird Jack Kevorkian wegen Totschlags zu einer Freiheitsstrafe von 10 bis 25 Jahren verurteilt. 2007 wird er, inzwischen selbst unheilbar krank, frühzeitig aus der Haft entlassen.
