Es gibt unzählige Geschichten von Kubanern, die als Bootsflüchtlinge ihr Traumziel Florida erreichten. Eine weniger bekannte Route in die Vereinigten Staaten beginnt mit einem Flug in einem maroden Flugzeug nach Guyana. Dann reisen die Flüchtlinge nach Kolumbien, wo sie den Dschungel durchqueren, um nach Mittelamerika zu gelangen, von wo aus sie hoffen, das gelobte Land Amerika zu erreichen – eine harte und gefährliche Reise. Der kubanische Filmemacher Marcel Beltrán besucht sie in einem Flüchtlingslager in Panama, wo ihm einer der Bewohner eine Idee gibt. Viele Menschen hier haben ihre Reise gefilmt, sagt sie, und diese Videos erzählen ihre wahre Geschichte. Diese abgehackten, schockierenden Videos sind mit Beltráns Aufnahmen des Lagers durchsetzt und verdeutlichen den Unterschied zwischen der Hektik der Reise und dem unsicheren Leben im Aufnahmezentrum.

Towards the end of 2015, James Benning made one of his occasional expeditions to Utah, to the place where Robert Smithson's colossal land-sculpture Spiral Jetty (1970) extends out into the Great Salt Lake. The water-level was low, leaving the vast bulk of the Jetty exposed in the crisp air.
