Er geht darauf ein, die alte Frau jedoch denkt, er sei auf der Suche nach Arbeit und stellt ihm ein. Die beiden lernen sich besser kennen und mögen sich, doch dannkommt der Tag, an dem alle Juden – auch sie – aus der Stadt gebracht werden, und Tono bemerkt, daß er einen riesigen Fehler begangen hat.
