After years on the road establishing his reputation as Japan's greatest fencer, Takezo returns to Kyoto. Otsu waits for him, yet he has come not for her but to challenge the leader of the region's finest school of fencing. To prove his valor and skill, he walks deliberately into ambushes set up by the school's followers. While Otsu waits, Akemi also seeks him, expressing her desires directly. Meanwhile, Takezo is observed by Sasaki Kojiro, a brilliant young fighter, confident he can dethrone Takezo. After leaving Kyoto in triumph, Takezo declares his love for Otsu, but in a way that dishonors her and shames him. Once again, he leaves alone.

Der dokumentarische Film beschreibt einen Tag in der Großstadt Berlin und orientiert sich dabei am 1927 von Walter Ruttmann gedrehten Schwarz-Weiß-Stummfilm Berlin: Die Sinfonie der Großstadt, der ebenfalls, musikalisch untermalt, einen Tag der Großstadt Berlin schildert. Wie bei Ruttmann orientiert sich auch Schadts Film an der Spannungskurve einer Symphonie, die hier allerdings viel flacher ausfällt. Die Aufbruchsstimmung und Hektik der 1920er Jahre, die den Rhythmus des Vorgängers dominieren sind weitgehend einer gewissen Melancholie gewichen. Der Film interpretiert Ruttmans Ansatz neu und zeigt die Brüche und Wunden, die Berlin in Folge des Krieges und der darauffolgenden Jahre gesellschaftlich wie im Stadtbild erlitten hat.

People is a film shot behind closed doors in a workshop/house on the outskirts of Paris and features a dozen characters. It is based on an interweaving of scenes of moaning and sex. The house is the characters' common space, but the question of ownership is distended, they don't all inhabit it in the same way. As the sequences progress, we don't find the same characters but the same interdependent relationships. Through the alternation between lament and sexuality, physical and verbal communication are put on the same level. The film then deconstructs, through its repetitive structure, our relational myths.
