Bis zum Ende des Kalten Krieges kümmerten sich speziell ausgebildete Soldaten um den bürgerlichen Wohncharme und machten abends das Licht an, während unter ihnen 2.000 Menschen rund um die Uhr mit Interkontinentalraketen die Welt bedrohten. Die Dokumentation zeigt auch Begegnungen mit den illegalen Erforschern dieser komplexen Transport- und Wohnsysteme, den Diggern.

Der Hitler-Stalin-Pakt vom 23. August 1939 war die unsägliche Folge eines kollektiven Versagens. Der Dokumentarfilm zeichnet die komplexen historischen Entwicklungen und politischen Verflechtungen nach, die letztlich die Besetzung Polens durch Hitler und somit den Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs herbeiführten.
