Bright Shadow (Persian: سايه روشن‎‎) is a 1997 Iranian drama film written and directed by Hossein Shahabi (Persian: حسین شهابی)

Der Film porträtiert drei Ehepaare am Vorabend des Nouruz, des iranischen Neujahrsfestes. Rouhi, eine junge Frau, deren Heirat bevorsteht, nimmt – um diese zu finanzieren – einen kleinen Job als Reinigungskraft in einer Wohnung im Norden Teherans an. Als sie in jener Wohnung ankommt, findet sie sich in einem hitzigen Streit zwischen Mojdeh und Morteza wieder. Mojdeh verdächtigt ihren Ehemann Morteza, sie mit der Nachbarin Simin zu betrügen, und verpflichtet Rouhi, die beiden zu beschatten. Dabei gerät Rouhi mehr und mehr zwischen die Fronten des streitenden Paares.

Ein Putsch in Teheran bringt zufällig vier unterschiedliche Frauen an einem Ort der Ruhe zusammen. Fakhri ist mit einem hohen Soldaten verheiratet und will ihn für ihre Jugendliebe verlassen. Tanzen steht im Iran unter Strafe. Für den Jungen Afshin Ghaffarian ist das Verbot jedoch nur schwer zu befolgen – zu groß ist seine Faszination für den Tanz. Erst als Student kommt Afshin seinem Traum näher: In Teheran hat er über einen gehackten Internetaccount unbegrenzten Zugang zu YouTube-Videos, mit deren Hilfe er sich selbst das Tanzen beibringt. Seine Inspirationen reichen von Michael Jacksons Moonwalk bis zum Tanztheater von Pina Bausch. In einigen liberalen Mitstudenten findet Afshin Gleichgesinnte, mit denen er schließlich eine Untergrund-Tanzgruppe gründet. Sie proben heimlich, in einem abgelegenen Versteck, das für sie zu einem kleinen Raum der Hoffnung und Freiheit inmitten der Verbote wird. So kommt Afshin auch seiner geheimnisvollen Partnerin Elaheh näher, mit der ihn bald mehr als nur die Liebe zum Tanz verbindet…

Aufgewachsen im komfortablen Wohlstand seiner iranischen Einwanderer-Eltern entzieht sich Millenial Parvis dem Provinzleben in Hildesheim durch Popkultur, Grindr-Dates und Raves. Als Strafe für einen Ladendiebstahl muß er Sozialstunden als Übersetzer in einer Unterkunft für Geflüchtete leisten, in der er auf das iranische Geschwisterpaar Banafshe und Amon trifft. Zwischen ihnen entwickelt sich eine fragile Dreierbeziehung, die zunehmend von dem Bewusstsein geprägt ist, dass ihre Zukunft in Deutschland ungleich ist.
