The famous Italian football coach Oronzo Canà has retired to a villa in Apulia. Now, old and tired, he is enjoying a quiet life there, cultivating his vineyard, when suddenly he is summoned to Milan, in northern Italy. There the elderly chairman of a great Lombard ("Longobarda") club is suffering from dementia and has lost his powers of judgement, and the club's manager has been fired. He has decided to bring back Oronzo Canà as trainer, remembering him from his great football team of thirty years before, tasking him with bringing the club back to its old winning ways. Oronzo puts his trust in the intervention of a Russian billionaire who has bought the club for promotion. But it is a deception.

Der semi-dokumentarische Film Intervista zeigt die gefilmte Autobiographie des italienischen Regisseurs Federico Fellini - in Form eines Interviews einer japanischen Filmcrew. Im Laufe des Interviews wandert Fellinis Geist zu seinen frühesten Tagen (die wiederholten Ereignisse stehen dabei in Konflikt mit einigen der offiziellen Geschichten aus seinem Leben). Seine Faszination für das Filmemachen zeigt sich in der Traumwelt-Atmosphäre der alten Cinecittà Studios. Zusammen mit Fellinis treuen Mitarbeitern wird der Betrachter eingeladen, in kurzen Auszügen Fellinis Modus Operandi zu sehen. Ein Besuch von Fellini und dem Stargast Marcello Mastroianni in Anita Ekbergs Haus führt zu einem aufwendigen und ergreifenden Nacherleben des Fellini/Mastroianni/Ekberg Werks La Dolce Vita von 1961. Der Höhepunkt von Intervista führt zu Fellinis früherem nach innen gerichteten Klassiker 8 ½, diesmal mit einer neuen Wendung, die die Schüler des Regisseurs mit einem Augurenlächeln nach Hause schickt.
