Die Puppe »Palme« ist aus dem Holz eines Kooloop-Baumes geschnitzt. Sein Schöpfer ermöglichte es ihm so, eigenständig zu leben, ohne Angst zu haben, ständig zu zerbrechen. Palme wurde erschaffen, um der kranken Frau Xian, die Frau des Schöpfers, zu helfen. Als diese stirbt, bricht für Palme eine Welt zusammen und er verliert jeglichen Sinn im Leben. Jahre später erwacht er plötzlich aus seiner Starre, wird aber daraufhin fast komplett zerstört, als er einen Fisch fangen will. Als sein Schöpfer ihn repariert, wird er von einer geheimnisvollen Frau besucht. Sie gibt ihm eine Kugel und ein seltenes Öl, welches große Kraft beinhaltet, mit dem Auftrag, es an einen Ort namens »Tamas« zu bringen. Jener Ort ist längst dem Untergang geweiht und das Volk kämpft verzweifelt ums Überleben. Mit der Zeit stellt sich heraus, dass die Schicksale von Palme und dem Volk von Tamas eng miteinander verknüpft sind …
