Gerade ist Susan mit Ehemann Richard und Sohn Jimi von New York nach Woodstock ins Hudson Valley gezogen. Richard wird in der Kleinstadt eine Arztpraxis übernehmen, in der Hoffnung, dass die Familie dann wieder mehr Zeit füreinander hat. Bereits kurz nach ihrer Ankunft macht Susan eine Entdeckung, die ihr den Boden unter den Füßen wegzieht: Lucas, ein erfolgreicher Fotograf und der leibliche Vater ihres Kindes, ist nicht nur in der Stadt, er arbeitet vorübergehend sogar an Jimis Schule.
