Zwei junge Männer verlieben sich in dasselbe Mädchen. Nachdem die US in den 1. Weltkrieg eingreifen, treten beide dem US Air Corps bei und werden dort Asse. Sie bleiben Freunde, aber die Beziehung zu dem Mädchen bedroht ihre Freundschaft

England 1626. Lordkanzler Cromwell, der wegen der Unterdrückung im Land auswandern will, wird überredet, sich der Volksbewegung gegen König Charles I. anzuschließen. Er kehrt ins Parlament zurück, wo Charles die Mittel für die Kriegsführung verweigert werden. Sein Anhänger Strafford wird wegen Verrat hingerichtet. Charles lässt das Parlament umzingeln. Cromwell stellt eine eigene Armee zusammen, wird in Edgehill besiegt, siegt entscheidend in Naseby und lässt den König hinrichten. Wenig später regiert Cromwell selbst wie ein Diktator.

Als er sich bei ihr erneut einen Korb holt, entschädigt ihn Sheilas atemberaubende Mutter dadurch, dass sie ihn in die Kunst der Liebe einweist.
