Der Film verwurzelt Hitlers Lebensgeschichte in einem Zeitraum von fünfzig Jahren, der eine Grundlage für das Verständnis der Person bietet – wenn das überhaupt möglich ist. Erzählt wird ausschließlich mit historischen Filmquellen und Materialien.
