Kyosuke Kanou ist ein sechzehnjähriger Teenager, der neu im ersten Jahr auf der Jyoyo Akanegaoko High School ist. Er fing schon als kleiner Junge an Fußball zu spielen und liebte den Sport. Als Kyosuke durch einen dummen Vorfall dazu verdonnert wird die Mädchen Fußballmannschaft der Jyoyo High School zu trainieren, wird ihm wieder klar, wie sehr er doch den Fußball liebt. Er tritt in die Männermannschaft der Jyoyos ein und versucht mit seinen neuen Kameraden ein gutes Team aufzubauen. Sein Ziel ist es, einer der besten Angriffsspieler der Welt zu werden und aus dem Schatten seines Bruders zu treten.

Nach seiner Rückkehr aus Amerika schließt sich das Tenniswunderkind Ryoma Echizen dem Tennisklub der Seigaku-Schule an.

Shou Kazamatsuri wechselt zum 2. Jahr der Mittelschule von der Musashinomori-Schule, die die regional stärkste Schulfußballmannschaft besitzt, zur Sakurai Jousui-Schule, da er bei Musashinomori auf der dritten Ersatzbank war und trotz unermüdlichen harten Einsatz nicht mehr als Fußballgrundlagen, Konditionstraining oder Reinigung von Bällen und Fußballschuhen machen konnte. Außerdem erkannte er, dass seine Senpais in der Fußballmannschaft ihn, nicht zuletzt wegen seiner geringen Körpergröße von 146 cm, weder ernst nahmen als Fußballspieler, noch irgendwelche Zukunft als Spieler bei Musashinomori einräumten. Shou erhofft sich vom Schulwechsel endlich richtig Fußball spielen zu können und seine Freude am Fußball entfalten zu können.
