Es ist das Jahr 0083 des Universellen Jahrhunderts. Das rebellische Fürstentum Zeon ist im Einjährigen Krieg von der Erdföderation besiegt worden. Eine Fraktion der Reste von Zeon unter der Führung von Aguille Delaz ist vor der letzten Schlacht geflohen und hat sich versteckt. Nach drei langen Jahren versuchen sie, sich wieder zu erheben, indem sie Delaz' Pilot Anavel Gato losschicken, um eine Forschungsbasis der Föderation zu infiltrieren und einen von zwei heimlich entwickelten Gundam-Prototypen zu stehlen. Bedroht durch den abtrünnigen Gundam und in dem Bestreben, den Frieden zu erhalten, mobilisiert die Erdföderation den neu entwickelten Träger Albion, um die gestohlene Einheit zu bergen.
