Einschübe erzählen dazu von Durys Beziehung zu seinem eigenen Vater (Ray Winstone) und von den Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Aufseher (Toby Jones) im Heim für behinderte Kinder.

Dieser Farb-Dokumentarfilm berichtet über den Töpfermeister Otto Engelmann aus Klingmühl, welcher im Frühjahr 1973 den Auftrag erhielt schwarz lackierte Tonköpfe von Karl Marx anzufertigen. Engelmann erklärt mit knappen Worten die einzelnen Arbeitsschritte vom anrühren der Gußmasse bis zum Brennen der Tonköpfe und anschließendem Lackieren. Ein altes Handwerk wird hier anschaulich mit der Kamera eingefangen und mit O-Tönen unterlegt.
