Dieser lustige Spielfilm ist nach dem gleichnamigen Märchen von dem sowjetischen Schriftsteller Lazar Lagin gedreht. Der zwölfjährige Moskauer Schüler Wolka badet im Fluß und findet ganz zufällig ein versiegeltes Gefäß, in dem etwas drin ist. Die knabenhafte Neugier ist so stark, daß er bei der ersten besten Gelegenheit das Gefäß aufmacht, aus dem der Zaubergeist Hassan Abdurrakhman ibn Khottab erscheint. Er war im Gefäß 2000 Jahre lang gesperrt und für seine Rettung aus der Gefangenschaft wird der Zaubergeist, von Volka Khottabych genannt, ein treuer Diener von seinem Retter. Er versucht den Jungen mit Geschenken zu überschütten indem er eine Kamellenkaravane, voll mit unzähligen Schätzen beladen, vor das Haus von Wolka holt. Sie unternehmen gemeinsam eine fesselnde Flugreise auf dem fliegenden Teppich nach Indien.

Filmed April 12, 2003 at a benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives, the international center for the preservation, study, and exhibition of avant-garde and independent cinema. In addition to screening films for the public, AFA houses a film museum, research library and art gallery. The event, which raised money for the Archives and celebrated the life and work of avant-garde film maker Stan Brakhage, featured Sonic Youth providing an improvised instrumental collaboration with silent Brakhage’s films. The band performed with drummer/percussionist Tim Barnes (Essex Green, Jukeboxer, Silver Jews).

Esen, a young man who has been expelled from his village, escapes with the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the village. Whilst being pursued, he is forced to fight for her hand in a battle that results in the destruction of a sacred totem tree. This puts the whole village in jeopardy, and it is up to Esen to redeem himself and save them all.

During the Japanese occupation, Little Tiger, an honest cook in Shanghai, takes exception of two Chinese that pass from insult to sexual harassment against a beautiful and modest girl servant. During the fight, the pair of molesters receive help from a number of colleagues from the same martial arts school - who are in support of the Japanese - while Little Tiger is helped by young men from his own school. A major fight develops, and the cook accidentally kills one of the thugs. The Police comes to arrest Little Tiger and to close down his school, but they resist and the cook escapes. Little Tiger is now a fugitive, living in disguise. When a duel between the two rival schools is arranged in an open-air site, Little Tiger is watching disguised as an old man, but he can't resist. He takes off his false beard, declares his name, and demands to join in the competition - beating up all competitors.
