Aber Papa Marianne kennt kein Zurück; sie will endlich die sein dürfen, die sie immer war. Für Hanna beginnt eine Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle, denn sie kannte weder sich noch ihren Vater so gut, wie sie dachte.

Hedwig tourt mit ihrer Band durch die amerikanischen Lande und tritt vor mickrigem Publikum in Clubs und Restaurants auf. Mit im Gepäck die Songs, die ihr Ex-Lover ihr geklaut hat. Hedwig ist transsexuell und erzählt uns vom Suchen der Liebe, von ihrer Kindheit und Jugend, von ihren Träumen. Hedwig war früher nur ein armer schwuler Junge, der aus Ost-Berlin raus wollte. Da traf er den süßen amerikanischen GI (ein historisch wohl etwas unsinniges, aber aufgrund der sonst guten Story zu vernachlässigendes Detail) heiratet ihn und wandert in die USA aus. Das Problem: Voraussetzung war eine Geschlechtsumwandlung. Und was nach dem Pfusch vom Tage übrig blieb war ein "angry inch". Und so ist Hedwig weder wirklich Frau, noch ein ganzer Mann. Und auch kein ganzer Rockstar, weil Tommy Gnosis, ihr bereits erwähnter Ex, mit ihren Songs Karriere macht und ihr nur die schäbigen Lokale bleiben, um abzurocken. Doch das tut sie! Hedwig rocks!

London in den Sechzigern. Zwei notorisch arbeitslose und betont blasierte Schauspieler – der scharfzüngige Zyniker Withnail und der von Neurosen geplagte I – ertränken ihre Frustration über ihre Erfolglosigkeit in Alkohol und Pillen. Als ihnen Withnails Onkel Monty seine Landhütte anbietet, entfliehen sie ihren klammen vier Wänden. Ihre Perspektive beginnt sich zu ändern, als sie sich mit Luis anfreundet, einem queeren Menschen, der die Geschlechternormen mit Anmut herausfordert. Durch die Ankunft von Cloé aus Kanada macht Ana neue Erfahrungen und erweitert ihren Horizont, was in ihr die Suche nach persönlicher Freiheit und Identität entfacht. Anas Entdeckungsreise führt dazu, dass sie die traditionellen Werte, mit denen sie aufgewachsen ist, in Frage stellt.
