Fast am Ende der Welt, in 4.000 Metern Höhe, an den Ufern des Titicaca-Sees liegt der kleine, bolivianische Ort Copacabana. Hier lebt die 14 jährige Alfonsina mit ihrer Mutter Rosa und ihrer Großmutter Elena. Zusammen mit ihrer besten Freundin Tere hat Alfonsina geschworen, dieses Kaff sobald wie möglich zu verlassen, um die Welt zu sehen. Doch bis es soweit ist, sammeln sie Postkarten aus aller Herren Länder. Ein Student aus München und ein Geschäftsmann aus La Paz tauchen in Copacabana auf. Ohne dass sie es ahnen, haben für Elena, Rosa und Alfonsina die letzten gemeinsamen Tage begonnen.

Manay Po tells the story of Luz, a small time jeweler who dreams of making it big so as to provide a better life for her family. Catrasca (Jorge Porcel) is a man who works in a restaurant and in his spare time helps in a children's home. Based on photographer William Yang's one man stage show, "Sadness" chronicles two diverging narratives through the use of slide photography, oral history and stylised recreation. One story follows Yang's pilgrimage into the heart of the North Queensland sugar cane fields as he investigates the murder of his uncle Fang Yuen. The other is a series of moving portraits of the many friends and lovers Yang has lost to AIDS. Das Kombinat mit 68.000 Mitarbeitern umfasste 21 Betriebe u.a. in Dresden, Weimar, Sömmerda, Karl-Marx-Stadt, Erfurt, Radeberg, Zella-Mehlis, Bad Liebenwerda, Pirna, Leipzig. Der Umsatz belief sich 1989 auf 12,8 Mrd. Mark. Eine Erfolgsgeschichte, die nur 6 Monate später durch die Treuhand einfach ad acta gelegt wurde. Nachfolgeunternehmen profitieren vom Potential der hochqualifizierten „robotron“- Fachkräfte bis in die Gegenwart.
