Intensive taktische Analysen und die einpeitschenden Ansprachen von Teamchef Jürgen Klinsmann tun ihr Übriges, ein Gegner nach dem anderen wird aus dem Weg geräumt, und trotz des Reisestresses ist die Stimmung in der Mannschaft vor dem Halbfinale gegen Italien bestens.

Sönke Wortmanns Sommermärchen wirkt wie ein deutsches Remake des französischen Orginals. Regisseur Meunier begleitet in diesem Dokumentarfilm die französische Fußball-Nationalmannschaft auf deren Weg zum Weltmeister-Titel 1998.

Harald Schmidt, Herbert Grönemeyer, Uli Hoeneß, Sportfreunde Stiller, Lukas Podolski, MTV-Moderator Markus Kavka und Joschka Fischer - vor allem aber Mehmet Scholl selbst.
