But not every character obeys the puppet master’s strings. The truth of the fairytale breaks everyday rules: here loyalty and friendship make miracles; love destroys the strongest magic spells; and a song wins a war!

Silence dominates the work, as does the screen rectangle, which cuts off the “image” from a life time-space continuum and imposes upon the image its particular character. Within it, there is a play between tonalities, textures, large and small shapes.

Auto Da Fé is a diptych that looks at migration through the lens of religious persecution. Presented as a poetic period drama, the film presents a series of eight historical migrations over the last 400 years, starting with the little known 1654 fleeing of Sephardic Jews from Catholic Brazil to Barbados. As the film develops, we are presented with tale after tale of populations being displaced along religious lines, right up to the present day migrations from Hombori, Mali and Mosul, Iraq. Religion, persecution and migration are, it seems, old and continuing bedfellows. The work was filmed on location in Barbados, but the landscape is deliberately anonymous, reflecting the universal nature of these stories.

Nachdem Mechagodzilla in seinem letzten Kampf gegen Godzilla schwer beschädigt wurde, wird er nun in einem Untergrund-Dock aus Godzillaknochen wiederhergestellt. Yoshito Nakajo, Mitglied der Reparaturtruppe bekommt während seines Urlaubs unerwarteten Besuch von ein paar Feen der Infant Islands. Sie raten ihm eindringlich ab einen Roboter aus Godzillaknochen zu bauen, andernfalls würde Mothra die Seiten wechseln und gegen die Menschheit kämpfen. Die Reparatur wird trotzdem fortgesetzt und schon bald mehren sich seltsame Ereignisse. Es dauert nicht lange und schon wütet Godzilla wieder in den Städten Japans. Bald eilt auch schon Mothra zu Hilfe aber dann entscheidet der Premierminister den noch nicht ganz reparierten Mechagodzilla am Kampf teilnehmen zu lassen. Der Kampf unter den drei Monstern beginnt als plötzlich neue Riesenungeheuer hinzukommen. Und keiner weiß ob sie Freunde oder Feinde der Menschheit sind!
